Small jobs, and the margin still decides itself at the shops
A private chef quotes a price before buying a thing. The food bill is settled hours later at the counter, and whether the evening was worth cooking is decided somewhere between the fishmonger and the checkout — usually without anybody adding it up.
Savrsoft costs the menu first. Recipes are priced from your own shopping, scaled to the number of people eating, and turned into one list for the day. You see the food cost and what is left of the fee before you agree a price, not while you are unpacking the car.
What you get
Everything below is included — one app, one price.
Cost the menu before you quote
Every dish priced from your own ingredient costs, scaled to the covers, with the food cost and margin on screen while you are still deciding what to charge.
One list for the whole service
Every dish aggregated into a single shopping list, unit-converted, with a waste buffer — so you buy once and buy right.
Prep timed backwards from service
A schedule counted back from the hour you plate, with anything that needs curing or proving overnight flagged the day before.
Allergens across the menu
Likely FDA Big-9 allergens highlighted from your own recipe text, plus a dish-by-dish matrix you can print or send ahead.
Recipes from a photo
Photograph a handwritten card or a cookbook page and it is read in, costed against your prices and ready to scale.
Proposals and invoices
Send the menu as a proposal the client approves online, then turn the approved quote into an invoice without retyping it.
Retainers and standing weeks
Set a weekly or monthly arrangement once and the invoice is drawn up on the day it is due, ready for you to send. Nobody's card is charged automatically.
Shopping billed at cost
Mark what the household reimburses and it goes onto their invoice at cost — without quietly dragging down the margin on your own fee.
Allergies stay on file
Record what a household cannot eat once. Every future menu for them is checked against it, and dishes nobody has analysed are flagged as unchecked rather than assumed safe.
An eight-cover dinner, end to end
- Price your shopping once. Add the things you actually buy, with pack price and size — a 1 kg piece of turbot at $34.00, say. Scan the barcode and the name and pack size fill themselves in.
- Build the menu and set the covers. Drop your dishes onto the evening and set it to eight. Every quantity scales from the recipe's own yield; nothing is retyped.
- Look at the number before you answer the client. Charge $95 a head and the evening reads like this:
| Fee — 8 covers at $95 | $760.00 |
| Ingredients, scaled from the recipes | −$205.20 |
| Food cost | 27.0% |
| Left for your time and travel | $554.80 |
Move it to ten covers and every figure moves with it. Swap the turbot for hake and you see what that is worth before you have promised anything.
If you work the other way round — a fee for the evening and the shopping reimbursed at cost — mark those costs as reimbursed. They go onto the invoice at cost, and they stay out of the margin on your own fee. Counting reimbursed shopping as both income and expense leaves your profit correct and makes the margin read far lower than it is, which is exactly the number you are here to trust.
- Shop from your phone. The list opens with quantities already aggregated across dishes, so the two dishes that both want shallots ask for them once.
- Cook to the clock. The prep schedule counts backwards from service, so the thing that needs six hours is on the list the night before rather than a surprise at four.
- Invoice without retyping. The approved menu becomes the invoice, with your own payment details on it.
Frequently asked questions
Is Savrsoft only for large catering companies?
No. The costing engine works the same way at six covers as at six hundred — recipes are priced from your own shopping, then scaled to the number of people eating. The parts built for bigger operations, like crew rostering and delivery run sheets, sit under More and can be ignored entirely.
Can I use it on my phone while I am shopping?
Yes. The shopping list for a service opens on your phone with quantities already scaled and aggregated across dishes, and you can scan a product barcode to fill in its name, pack size and price as you buy.
Does it handle allergies and dietary requirements?
Savrsoft reads the recipe text you have entered and highlights likely FDA Big-9 allergens across a menu, and produces a dish-by-dish allergen matrix you can print or send. It is a drafting aid that reads what you typed — not a laboratory analysis, and no substitute for your own checks with the household.
Can I bill a retainer or a standing weekly arrangement?
Yes. Set up a schedule against a client — weekly, fortnightly or monthly — with the lines you bill each time, and Savrsoft draws up the invoice on the day it is due. It appears in your list unsent, so you decide when it goes out. Nothing is charged to anyone's card automatically, and a schedule can be paused or stopped at any time.
Can I put the shopping on the client's invoice at cost?
Yes. Mark a cost as reimbursed and it is added to their invoice at cost, and left out of the margin on your own fee. That matters: counting reimbursed shopping as both income and an expense keeps your profit right but makes your margin read much lower than it is.
How much does it cost?
